Shieldaig

Sheildaig is a beautiful village only 1½ hours drive from Inverness. A hidden gem in the Highlands of Scotland nestled amongst the Torridon mountains on the edge of a loch. Shieldaig is a perfect base for walking, cycling, climbing and exploring the Applecross peninsular, Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve, Eilean Donan Castle, Plockton, Inverewe Gardens, Glen Elg , Isle of Skye and the rest of Wester Ross. The village has a convenience store; ethical coffee shop serving light lunches and fabulous home baked cakes; a local bar (with regular live music sets) and a restaurant which serves local fresh fish, meat and other produce.

The History of Campbell House

The house was originally purchased by the Campbell family over 100 years ago, and the property has remained in the family ever since. The late Annie Campbell lived there with her husband John and their two sons; then later ran it as a Bed and Breakfast until 1986. The house has passed through Annie’s late sons, and is now lovingly owned by her grandchildren – Eilidh (Ailee) and Alison, who let the house out during the summer months with all proceeds invested back into the maintenance of their family home.

To walk the whole loop around the village takes 20-30 minutes; as highland folk are generally friendly and have a strong sense of community, conversation and distractions along the way can slow things down, so it can regularly take one and a half hours!
